Editor’s Notes: Nike is bringing back one of its more coveted Doernbecher drops, as Elijah Diggins’ Air Foamposite One Premium is set to re-release tomorrow, February 21, six years after the sneaker debuted in 2013.
The Foamposite’s red and black colorway represents Elijah’s Burkitt leukemia diagnosis, which is a form of blood cancer, while the scheme also points to one of his favorite basketball teams. From there, the sockliners bear graphic print inspired by Diggins’ most prized possession, a silver bracelet he was given on his 13th birthday.
Nike reports that since the Air Foamposite One Doernbecher released in 2013, Elijah has been in remission and is considered cured. He is currently a college sophomore, spending his time playing baseball and studying science.
All proceeds from the sale of Diggins’ Doernbecher Air Foamposite One will be awarded to the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Again, the re-release is scheduled for Thursday, February 21.
